check.co.nz (“check.co.nz”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a mortgage rate comparison and enquiry service operated by Total Mortgages Limited (NZBN 9429042119111, Financial Service Provider FSP712111), 6 Princes Street, Hamilton Central, Hamilton 3204, New Zealand. Total Mortgages Limited is a licensed Financial Advice Provider.

This policy explains how we collect, use, share, store and protect your personal information, and your rights, in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. By using check.co.nz or submitting an enquiry, you agree to this policy.

Information you give us when you use our comparison tools or submit an enquiry — including your name, email address, phone number, and details about your situation such as property value, loan amount, deposit or equity, loan purpose (e.g. buying, refinancing, top-up), and other answers you provide through our forms.

Information we collect automatically when you visit — including your device and browser type, IP address, pages viewed and actions taken, the website or ad you arrived from (referrer), and advertising click identifiers and campaign tags (such as Facebook fbclid, Google gclid, and UTM parameters) that tell us which advertisement or channel referred you.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information beyond what you volunteer to progress your mortgage enquiry, and we do not knowingly collect information from people under 18.

• To provide the rate comparison service and show you relevant results;
• To connect you with a licensed mortgage adviser who can give you personalised advice, and to enable that adviser to contact you about your enquiry;
• To contact you by phone, SMS or email to follow up on your enquiry and arrange a call or booking;
• To operate, secure, analyse and improve check.co.nz;
• To measure and improve our advertising, and to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

We share your personal information only as needed to provide the service:

• Mortgage advisers and advice firms in our network, so a licensed adviser can contact you and help with your enquiry. Total Mortgages Limited operates this service and may be the adviser who assists you.
• Service providers who help us run check.co.nz — including website and database hosting, SMS and email delivery, and appointment booking. They may only use your information to provide services to us.
• Advertising and analytics partners — including Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google. We use their measurement tools (such as the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, and Google tags) to understand which ads work and to reach similar audiences. This may involve sharing hashed identifiers (for example, a hashed email address) so those platforms can match and measure activity. See “Cookies and tracking” below.
• Where required or permitted by law — for example to comply with a legal obligation, a lawful request, or to protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information.

We use cookies and similar technologies, including the Meta Pixel and Google tags, to run the site, remember your progress, measure advertising performance, and attribute enquiries to the ad or channel that referred you. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage ad-personalisation through your Meta and Google ad settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.

We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe and to prevent unauthorised access, use or disclosure. Some of our providers (including cloud hosting and the advertising platforms above) store or process information outside New Zealand. Where information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected with comparable safeguards, consistent with the Privacy Act 2020.

We keep your personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described above, to meet our legal and regulatory obligations (including record-keeping as a Financial Advice Provider), and to resolve disputes, after which we securely delete or de-identify it.

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can also ask us to stop sending you marketing at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below — we may need to verify your identity first.
